Rolodex V546

Look what I found on E Bay!!!

I can almost imagine what you're thinking.  You're thinking I've lost my mind what the heck is that ugly old thing?

You're looking at a Rolodex V File Model #546.
I'd love to know what year it was made...  Any ideas?

One more photo of it right out of the box.

Recently I was browsing on Pinterest and came across an art journal that totally inspired me.  Patty Van Dorin calls hers a "Scrapodex", you can see it on her blog.  She uses a smaller version of the Rolodex made to hold 2" X 4" address or business cards and makes paper collages to go in hers, it's really neat.

From Patty's inspiration I went looking for a Rolodex file to play with and found several on E Bay.  The one I ended up buying is a Zephyr American Rolodex V546 which holds 4"x6" index cards - perfect for those mini art journal projects!  After winning the auction and looking around a bit more I found there appear to be three sizes, 2"X4", 3"X5" & 4"X6".  I haven't found any actual 4"X6" Rolodex cards to put in mine but that's ok I can make my own as you'll see below.

Every once in awhile I make a project I'd really like to keep so I thought this Rolodex would be a perfect place to keep those and enjoy them.  I'm very happy I found one of these that was made to hold bigger index cards!

I've just barely gotten started on this project and will be adding to it as often as I can & I'll share it with you as I go along.

Patty has the Scrapodex for her creations now I need to come up with a name for mine.  What do you think?  Is it an "Artodex" a "Cardodex", "Craftodex"?
Your comments with ideas for a name would be fun and very much appreciated!

Thanks for visiting my blog today!

HA! Yes, I was wondering when I saw the first photo just exactly what you were going to do with that thing. I LOVE the finished product. I think you should call it your Craftodex because I have a feeling you will be putting more than cards in it. Artodex just didn't roll off my tongue the way Craftodex did, but everything you do IS a work of art, Jan!

My big fundraising event was last night and was a HUGE success! Now maybe I'll have some more time to make cards, scrapbook and work on fun projects like yours.

Wow what a great find! Gives me something else to look for at our state surplus warehouse next time I'm out there. I think Craftodex works for the type of art you'll be putting in it.

This is a sight to behold! I still have an old Rolodex (much smaller though!) on my desk at work. It has followed me from desk to desk in the last 25 years--give or take! I love this idea! Crafty-Dex, Craft-o-dex, create-o-file... Enjoy your new organizational toy!

What a Fabulous idea Miss Jan! I agree with Allison & Sharon. A Craftodex seems very fitting! 8-) Love this!

Jan, for what it's worth, I had one of these years ago when first started working--uh, let's say 'bout 40 years ago. Gulp!

I just love this idea. As for a good name? I think I'd call it BillyBob!
