Happy Easter Weekend!

I've had more free time lately to pursue things that interest me and a touch of spring fever too.

I've been enjoying being out in our garden before it becomes summer here and everything turns crispy and burnt.

I've been taking a free online Growing Herbs for Beginners class

and here's my class project, Spearmint, Lemon Balm, Sweet Basil, German Thyme, Bay Leaf & Calendula.  The last two are from seed packets.  I'm not sure if the seeds are going to have enough time to mature before the temperature here reaches 115 degrees or if they'll survive indoors with central air conditioning.  

Like everything else in life, it's going to be a learning process.  

I planted some in "pots" and some in the garden with our tomatoes, lettuce and carrots.  

I up-cycled ice cream buckets that we saved for pots and picked a couple of smaller ice cream containers from the trash to house my seeds until the seedlings are big enough to transplant. 

One of the reasons for trying a potted herb garden was shade, the table has an umbrella and if they don't do well in this area of the yard I can pick them up and move them to another location.

My husbands shaded garden, the sun is so intense here that Rick tried using sun shade to cover some of the plants so maybe they wouldn't burn up and it works.  There are lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, bell peppers, green onions and the ever encroaching Bermuda grass under the shade.

Hopefully the next pictures won't be of dried up scorched plants!
